Mick's Laptop

Wanna see what all this has been made on? The picture at left is an IBM ThinkPad 701C.

Even though I'm affiliated with an IBM competitor, I've got to say this is one impressive piece of equipment. MS Exp won't insert here with(br)

IBM made these from March 7, 1995 to June 28, 1996. The model incorporates a bunch of features I like: the "butterfly" keyboard that expands out when the lid is opened, brilliant 10" LCD that seems much larger, internal modem, and the TrackPoint stub stuck in between the G, H, and B keys that saves me from having to use one of those annoying TouchPad yokes.

Here are some Specs:

Processor-

Intel 486 DX4 25/75MHz, with math coprocessor.

RAM-

24 MB EDO RAM. (8 integrated, 16 upgraded)

Hard Drive-

540 MB Hard Disk (512 usable FAT 32).

Display-

10.4", 640x480, 256/226K color, TFT LCD color.

Detachable Drives-

1.44 MB floppy; 10x EigerMedia CD-ROM in PCMCIA.

A Duh Diatribe-

With the programming I'm getting into, I know I'm going to need a bigger and better machine soon. I installed a trial version of the HotDog web page editor, and even that it was hard going. Very slow--- Sometimes the .386 swap files get so large, with so little free space left on the hard drive, the whole shebang just needs to shut down. Actualy, he went for
a better machine than me!

I'd love to get a real top-of-the-line machine to do some serious work on. Realistically, I think I'll be in the market for something like a G6-366 C, or a nice Pentium II that's been around long enough to have any bugs well worked out. DVD, 10+GB Hard Drive, Zip Drive, and (! Quite Important!) a 56Kbps modem, as I'm still at 14.4 with this puppy. I'm thinking something like the system at the right.

SEE HOW IT WORKED OUT!

Peace.
