Bed and Breakfast

Looking for a good place to lay your weary head, when visiting Dublin? Check out Sutton's B & B.

There are approximately one billion Bed and Breakfast places in Ireland. The deal is that you get a room, for a hell of a lot cheaper than an impersonal old hotel, and they kick in a full Irish breckie the next morning. Over the years, I've seen the insides of some B & B's that were nice, and some that would make a hobo howl with contemptuous scorn. Let me recommend a good one to you.

Sutton Bed and Breadfast in Sutton, Co. Dublin

I know the Sutton family personally, and would like to use their fine place as an example of a good B & B. The house is a family home in a residential area, with free off-street parking. It is close to amenities (the sea, in this case) and has central heating, ensuites with showers, telly in the room. Also important, there's a pub within walking distance.

Sutton (the village, yep, has the same name as the family) can serve as a good base for exploring the "real" Dublin. It's located well ouside of City Center, out where your average suburbanite Dub would live. Sutton is close to the Howth Peninsula with its fishing boats and cliff walks, and also close enough to Malahide Castle and the Portmarnock Strand. DART (Dublin Area Rapid Transit) service runs into City Center every fifteen minutes. All in all, not a bad part of town.

Anyway, B & B-ing it is a good way to see Ireland, if you pick the good ones. Give Brendan Sutton a shout by phone (+353 1 8325167) or by e-mail to find out more about a model B & B, including prices and availability.

Happy B & B-ing!
